Mead is made by mixing honey, water, and yeast, then placing it in barrels to ferment. During fermentation, the yeast converts the sugars into alcohol and carbon dioxide, creating a slightly carbonated beverage. Depending on the recipe, various spices and herbs may be added to give the mead a more complex flavor and aroma.
Today, mead is available in a variety of varieties, including commercially produced bottled drinks and homemade versions that can be made at home. In addition, mead is widely used in cooking, especially in desserts and sauces, adding sweetness and flavor.
